Anime Weeklies and Meeting Location for Summer 2009

It's been confirmed: Anime Weeklies will take place every Thursday at 4:30pm in C9000 in the AQ, beginning on May 14.

In case some of you aren't aware, our first meeting and gaming night event will take place on Tuesday, May 19 at 4:00pm in the MBC Conference Rooms. They can be located behind the hallway with the photocopy machines in the Maggie Benston Centre, adjacent from Mr. Sub. It is perhaps better known as the area formerly used as the Dealer's Room at Anime Evolution.

Details for Summer 2009

ARC activities will once again be going full force throughout the summer semester. Gaming Nights will continue as usual right away, beginning on Tuesday, May 4th. We have hit a bit of an interesting dilemma, though, in that the rotunda is currently closed for renovations. I am going to suggest that Gaming Nights now be held in the Shrum study area where the sleepover took place a few weeks ago, but this can be discussed over the course of the week. (The forum might be a good place to do that, hint hint.)

Clubs Days will be next Tuesday and Wednesday, so please be sure to pop by and sign up! As usual, the mailing list will be deleted at the end of the semester, so unless you have an absolutely compelling excuse to let me keep you on the current list, please swing by and offer your signature!

Weeklies are currently TBA, but SHOULD begin on Thursday, May 14th. Here is our line-up for the semester:

Macross Frontier
Maria-Holic
One Outs
Kuroshitsuji
Michiko and Hatchin

Pending any major changes the first general meeting for the semester (yes, we're still doing three!) will be on Tuesday, May 19th. However, the exact time and place are currently TBA. Please stay tuned.

What's still to come this semester?

A big thanks to everyone who pitched in at the auction at the spring party last week. Not only did we raise over $600 for the club, but it seems that everyone had a great time, against all odds! Who would've known?

There are a few important events coming up. On Thursday, March 12 we will be going for dinner and karaoke after weeklies. We're not sure exactly how things will work out, so if you want to come but aren't coming to weeklies, please contact me or reply to this post. On March 21st, Thea from ohSNAP will be hosting a cosplay photoshoot! So be sure to either finish your costumes or grab any old ones you may have handy and get ready to have some great quality photos taken. Check out their website to get a good idea of the services they offer! In addition, we'll also be having a cosplay dinner night out on Thursday March 26!

Our Third General Meeting will be on Tuesday, March 24 at 3:30pm in the Rotunda, where we will primarily be planning the Rotunda sleep-over which will be taking place in April. Don't miss it!

Cosplay Workshop

2009-02-25 5:00 pm

Attention cosplayer and potential cosplayers:

Kevin, our magnificent cosplay go-to guy, will be hosting a Cosplay Workshop on Wednesday, February 25 at 5:00pm in the Conference Rooms in the Maggie Benston Centre. (The rooms behind the copy centre, adjacent to Mr. Sub and Koya.) Come down if you would like to partake in a tutorial for cosplay basics, as well as a few hands-on elements.

If you're mulling over the possibility of first party coming up on March 5, which will be shortly followed by a cosplay dinner event as well as a possible all-out photoshoot around the middle of March! Be sure to come down to the workshop if you want more information!

Spring Mid-Semester Recovery Party

2009-03-05 6:00 pm

Come down to the MBC Conference Rooms on March 5 starting at 6pm to wipe the rust off those social skills during this turbulent time of midterms and enjoy some food, games, and of course a drawing easel for you all to let loose on. The party is going to be catered, but if past parties have been any indication, the food provided by the catering services probably isn't going to be enough for everyone. We kindly ask (although it's really more like "kindly demand") that attendees contribute some snacks, appetizers, or any other goodies you can!

Amidst the celebration, the oft-mentioned ARC Anime/Manga Auction is, at long last, will finally commence. The club will be auctioning off a whole bunch of anime and manga for ridiculously low (starting) prices! If you plan to bid (which of course is totally optional!) we strongly recommend that you bring cash. We'd prefer not to spend time chasing down the highest bidder afterwards!

If you have anything you might be able to contribute to the auction, please let as know as soon as possible!

Spring 2008 Second General Meeting

2009-02-17 4:00 pm

The second all important ARC meeting for the semester! It's hopefully this time will be convenient for as many people as possible. (That is, assuming you aren't all busy actually reading!)

Come on down to discuss plans for our big Auction Party at the beginning of March, as well as developing other fundraiser ideas for this semester and the summer. Also, be sure to attend if you're interested in cosplay events for the coming month!

Be sure to stick around for Gaming Night afterwards! Also, if you're interested in cosplay, please note the Cosplay Planning Meeting on Wednesday, February 18!

Bowling Night

2009-01-29 8:30 pm

Thursday January 29, the ARC will be going Bowling at Rev's Bowling and Entertainment Centre! The club has managed to book four lanes beginning at 8:30pm (no need to wait for league night to end!), and has also bagged a special price: $13 per person! Be sure to come down for some fun with us after weeklies. If you'd prefer to meet us there, be at Rev's by 8:30pm. It is the giant purple and yellow building right near Holdom SkyTrain Station. If, for whatever reason, you DO miss it, here is the address:

Rev's Bowling and Entertainment Centre
5502 Lougheed Hwy
Burnaby

Spring 2009 Icebreaker on Thursday

Just a reminder that the ARC's Spring 2009 Icebreaker will be held on Thursday, January 22 at Top Gun Sushi in New Westminster. We will be heading there right after weeklies, but if you're not coming to weeklies you can meet us at the restaurant at 8pm. It is just down the street from New West Skytrain station. It is the large restaurant on top of one of the buildings you'll see to your right at the quay. You shouldn't be able to miss it as soon as you get down there. Exact address is 810 Quayside Drive #230.

If you think you'll have any trouble getting there, please let me know and we can arrange alternate meet-up plans.

Just a reminder

Just a reminder to all interested that Anime Weeklies start today at 4:30pm in AQ 3005. Be sure to come on out if you can! If you haven't signed up for the club yet (and I know a number of you still haven't signed up again!) you can do so at weeklies tonight, or at the meeting next week. Keep in mind that the old mailing list will be deleted shortly, and you have to sign up again if you want to be on the new one!

If you newbies have any trouble finding us throughout the week, you can usually find ARC members hanging out in the Rotunda under the big ARC board in the Rotunda (the big round room above the lower bus loop, between the Women's Centre and Out on Campus). And just in case anyone wasn't aware, we do have a Facebook group now. You can check that out here.

Important Info for Spring 2009!

Please take note of these important dates:

The ARC will be at Clubs Days in the AQ on Tuesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 14. Please pop by our table to sign up! Please note that we need you to sign up in order to put you on our mailing list, which is the best way to keep up with club activities! Anime Weeklies will begin on Thursday, January 15 at 4:30pm in AQ 3005. Bearing any last minute changes, the time and place should remain the same every Thursday for the entire semester. Our new line-up will include the following:

- Soul Eater (second half)
- Kuroshitsuji ("The Black Butler")
- Natsume YuujinChou
- Detroit Metal City

Our first General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 20 at 3:30pm in the Rotunda. Here we'll be setting out our plans for the entire semester, as well as giving new members an opportunity to introduce themselves to the club, so I strongly recommend you all try and make it down. The first meeting will be followed by our Event Gaming Night, where there will be more than enough tabletop games, cards, D&D, and much more for everyone!

Hope to see you all there!
