Okay, here is what i have compiled so far
Starting off with the mentioned:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya:

These costumes have a lot of good things about them. They would be pretty easy to make, and they are nice on the eyes.
Downsides would be that some of us would probably have to spring for wigs, and one of the female cosplayers would get a secondary character like Ryoko or Tsuruya.
Gundam Wing:

These costumes are simple enough to not cause us to go grey over midterms (which is a very good thing). However, since we do have 4 girls in the group, crossdressing could be an issue. Anyone who has long hair and doesn't cosplay Duo would need a wig. Or a very concealing hat.
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle:

I'm not too familier with all the characters in this series, but I know Clamp well enough to know that their costumes are killer intricate. It might be too hard for us (remember guys, we have little more than a month!) Though wigs probably wouldn't be that much of an issue.
Some more recommendations:
Neon Genesis Evangelion:

If we did their school uniforms, this would be a pretty reasonable cosplay. We wouldn't have to buy wigs (unless someone wants to cosplay Kaworu, since we already have Rei and Asuka), the sewing is pretty minimal, and we have a lot of characters to choose from.
Oh, and the guys have no sewing to do. At all. It's a closet cosplay for them.
Code Geass:

I think someone mentioned this yesterday, and if we went with the school uniforms, it wouldn't be impossible to pull off. There would be a lot of characters to choose from for either male or female, and the outfits are nice.
Downsides would be wigs.
Genderswap Haruhi:

Okay, so this would be totally impracticle in the sense that there are only two girls now verses like, seven. But wigs would be cheaper, and maybe it would be more original?
Gurren Lagann

I think i remember this one being mentioned too. Not impossible, but it would probably be fairly tough. And probably not the warmest cosplay for the end of October, either.
I'll come up with more later, but right now I'm leaning towards haruhi or evangelion.
Well...low-key to me is something that isn't too over the top. I mean...Dressing AS Gundams is somewhat over the top for me. Not that I'm against people who do it; I just never would. Even Orochimaru from Naruto is a little too much. I guess for me, low-key is really how elaborate the costume gets. But for ideas, I'm kinda short on them myself. I do suggest Spiral: Suiri No Kizuna, or maybe Soul Eater...but that's about all I can think of. Heh...sorry for that.
Ah, I already posted a comment in the other cosplay thread about cosplaying for Halloween. Lol, ya read my mind, Pip. I'm not sure any cosplay really qualifies as low key, lol. Most animes usually have people with funky-coloured hair. Eva and Haruhi's looking the easiest right now.
Ya, with midterms falling during October keeping it simple would be nice. Evangelion is the easiest probably, followed by Haruhi. the only problem being that due to a surprisingly large amount of female cos'ers in our group, we will either have duplicates or someone will have to be a less significant character(and probably spring for a wig). Mind you that will be true with almost any anime due to our group size. My personal vote is for Haruhi atm unless we get some more ideas (not a big fan of the evang uniforms myself)
Hey ho guys!
So, here are our characters:
Shinji Ikari-Pip
Rei Ayanami-Roey
Asuka Langley Soryu-Beth
Kaworu Nagisa-Tyler
Toji Suzuhara-Blake
Gendo Ikari-Felix
Yui Ikari-Andrew
Hikari Horaki-Laura
Misato-either Carole or Alice, we're going to have to figure that one out. Any suggestions to settle that?
Oh,if you're unfamilier with Evangelion, you can read the manga here:

Awesome. I'll see what I can do (in terms of finding the time for buying fabric, and obtaining a sewing machine, and finding the oppurtunity to put everything together) so I apologize in advance if I fail to make it and contribute. I would very much like to though, so I'll do my best!
((Also, I will be sure to bone up on my knowledge on the character...don't wanna blow it too much))
I think we should probably organize a day to go fabric shopping, or at least for the girls who have to do uniforms (which is, uh, three of us). That way, we can all get the same fabric and match n_n.
I think there was also some talk about fabrics at the cosplay workshop, so it might be best to wait to hear what is said there before going on our merry way.
Ah... I think I've been forgotten? ;_; definitely want to do this tho. I'm Joanne btw.
Sorry I missed the cosplay meeting yesterday! just saw the notice about it today, arrgh! so mad at myself. D<
that's what I get for never checking my email...
So, um yeah.... ^^;
Okay! Uh, basically what we did was hold a meeting to decide what anime we would cosplay and what characters we would do. We decided on Neon Genesis Evangelion and most of the characters got settled. There are a few female characters leftover that you can choose, like Ritsuko and Maya. Mana and Mayumi are also up if you would want to make a school uniform (Mana is a major character unique in one of the evangelion games, and Mayumi new in the movies).
We're also having a cosplay workshop on the 15th, where we will not only learn some tips on sewing and fabric, but get some advice on our specific costumes and patterns.

Hey guys, A new year is starting and Halloween is only a month and a bit in the future.
The main ideas are to either do a group cosplay to colaberate and show off at Halloween, or to have an individual cosplay contest.
I'm liking the idea of a group cosplay.
Post any ideas we had here. We can vote on them later.
GROUP IDEAS SO FAR:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Gundum Wing
Tsubasa Resavoir Chronicles
keep 'em coming.
~Why bother being sane, when its much more fun being INSANE!?~
