Hey everyone, Geoff here.

As some of you may know, there is a Magic the Gathering Booster Draft (intended for ARC members, although feel free to bring a friend along) happening on Saturday, February 13.

Regardless, sets:
We are not going to play Zendikar; it's going to be an older set.
At the moment, I'm thinking Ravnica or Shadowmoor/Eventide.

I'm also thinking that it might be fun to do a "two-headed giant" (team) draft, if we get enough people.
Ideas?

The entry fee will be $15. There will be prizes.

Interested, of course. I'll show up for the draft, and I'm working on convincing two other non-ARC members to join. Hopefully there will be a lot of people signing up for this. I wanna play two-headed giant games!

If we did end up doing a two-headed giant draft, the rules would be thus:
-The actual 'drafting' of cards does not change; under no circumstances may the partners (chosen before the drafting process) trade or exchange cards. However, they may discuss picks and attempt to make decks that have synergy.
-Prizes would still be individual, with each member of the winning team still receiving four (probably) boosters, the 2nd place team receiving three, etc.

I'd really like to try this out.

I would be so very down for a 2HG (two headed giant) Ravnica-Guildpact-Dissention draft. I know my friend Matt would be in as well.

Why don't you want to use the 2HG draft rules? They are quite easy and a LOT of fun as a team event.

The equivalent of two draft sets in a normal draft (six packs total) are used per team. How the draft works is that each team will open a booster, take two cards, and then pass the booster. It works like a normal draft rotating the passing in a left / right fashion for each subsequent booster.

I just reactivated my WPN organizer status with wizards so that if anybody wants to have any sanctioned events we could totally do that too.

If you want I could also help with some sort of cards based prizes.

Do we have to sign up before hand, or just show up. Also, are there any special rules to a draft I should know, this is kinda may be my first one attending. As in, do we keep the draft decks?

Excellent! I didn't know such rules existed! Would you mind giving me a link to them? That's good; I'm glad people would be up for 2hg, then.

Yes, you do have to sign up beforehand so we know how many boosters to buy. There will likely be enough for one or two extra last-minute entrants, but, due to the format, you'd need a partner anyways.

Regardless, sounds good. Those interested, please find yourself a partner and contact me. I'll start a list of entrants.

Ravinica/Guildpact/Dissention actually seems quite likely at the moment. That or Mirrodin/Mirrodin/Fifth Dawn (Darksteel tends to be on the pricey side).

2HG Draft rules are as follows:

----------------------
The draft proceeds like a normal Booster Draft (as outlined in the DCI Universal Tournament Rules, sections 70¬–74), with the following exceptions.

Teammates sit next to each other. A tournament official then distributes two identical sets of new booster packs to each team in the pod.

The players on a team may consult and talk freely during the draft, provided that they adhere to the time limits for card selection. Taking, giving, or receiving notes during drafting and deck construction is still disallowed.

The order in which packs are opened is the same as in Booster Draft, but each player’s pack is opened separately. For example, in a R(avnica)-G(uildpact-D(issention) draft, the order in which the packs are opened would be R-R-G-G-D-D.

After opening and counting the cards in their first pack, the team chooses two cards from the booster pack then passes the remaining cards face down to the team on its left. The cards chosen are not assigned to a particular player; they become part of a pool out of which both players will build their decks. The open packs are passed around the drafting pod—with each team taking two cards from each before passing—until all cards are drafted. Each team’s last pick for each booster will consist of only one card.

For the second pack, the direction of drafting is reversed as usual, despite the fact that it is always the same type of booster pack as the first. Thus, the overall draft direction is left–right–left–right–left–right.

Each team has 40 minutes to construct one deck for each player from its common pool of cards. All drafted cards not played in a main deck should be recorded as a common, shared sideboard.

In other news; I just received my Zendikar WPN Gateway coordinator package. This means that I have foil alternate art vampire nighthawk and Kor Duelist to give away at any events I wish to promote at SFU. Along with cool prizes I can also sanction this event as a casual or 'real' sanctioned event and supply anyone who needs a DCI number with one. One of the advantages of playing in organized events is the player rewards program.

Getting free cool cards in the mail every few months is really cool.

Even if people don't have a team mate they should still sign up and can be pared up as we get sets of them. That way they get to play magic and get a new friend!

(Sorry I took so long to reply. Also sorry for the Long post.)

I don't mean to thread-jack but would there be any interest in a weekly worldwake draft? If there is I'll start a new thread to discuss it.

Couple questions, what time is it going to be at? Also, what is the worldwake draft?

Worldwake is the new set coming out next week. It is the second set it the zendikar block and so would use some combination of Zendikar and Worldwake packs. At some point I will probably try a draft using 3 Worldwake packs but for the moment I only have enough Worldwake packs (from the pre-release) to run a 4 person Zendikar-Zendikar-Worldwake draft. Would you be interested?

Arthur; you are good to play. Flavia will have to pay, though.

I have no idea who some of you are, due to your lack of actual names involved on the forums. I'm assuming "Lost My Mind" is Tyler.

-Anh and ChiChi. paid
-Geoff and Adam paid
-Andrew and Megan paid
-Tyler and Thomas Tyler paid
-Richard and Jeremy Paid
-Vincent and unknown
-Aaran and Matt
-Aaran and Alex paid
-Arthur and Flavia Arthur paid
-Evelyne and Austin
-Joel and Tim

Which means I need money from Flavia, Aaran, Matt, Evelyne, Austin, Joel, and Tim.
I am buying the cards on Weds, which means I need all entry fees by the end of Tuesday (or by 5:00 or so on Weds). I'll be in the rotunda on Tuesday.

The draft is in the Rotunda on Saturday Feb 13th. It will be starting at 12 or 1 pm.
There will be no refunds after Weds, as such a thing would be a significant cash sink on my end, and I'm not exactly rich.
If you have a concern, drop me a facebook message. If anyone needs a partner, I have a friend who is interested in coming. Once again, anything important should be sent over facebook or by email at

so I know who you are.

I've been unable to find you around the rotunda. Where/when can you be located to make a payment for my team?
